Prof. Henry Stuart Kasozi

Professor Henry Stuart Kasozi is a distinguished Ugandan radiologist, educator, and healthcare pioneer whose contributions have significantly shaped medical imaging and education in Uganda. Prof. Kasozi began his academic journey in medicine, eventually specializing in radiology. In 1982, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Radiology, marking a significant milestone in his academic career. Recognizing the scarcity of ultrasound services and training in Uganda, he pursued an Ultrasound Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, USA, in 1997. This experience was pivotal in introducing and advancing ultrasound technology and training in Uganda.

Founding of ECUREI

Upon returning to Uganda, Prof. Kasozi co-founded the Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (ECUREI) alongside Prof. Michael Kawooya and Prof. Elsie Kiguli-Malwadde. Established in 2002 and housed within Mengo Hospital, ECUREI became the first institution of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa dedicated to training in ultrasound and medical imaging. Under his leadership, ECUREI expanded its academic offerings to include certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s, and master’s programs, earning recognition as a World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) Centre of Excellence in 2007.

Establishment of KADIC Hospital

In 1991, Prof. Kasozi and his wife, Sayuni Kasozi, founded the Kampala Diagnostic and Imaging Centre (KADIC) in Naakulabye. The center quickly grew, leading to the establishment of a larger facility in Bukoto. KADIC Hospital became a prominent private healthcare provider in Kampala, employing over 130 staff and serving thousands of patients monthly. In 2017, the facility was acquired by Victoria Hospital Limited and renamed UMC Victoria Hospital.

Legacy and Impact

Prof. Kasozi’s dedication to advancing medical imaging and education has left an indelible mark on Uganda’s healthcare landscape. His efforts have not only improved diagnostic services but also fostered the development of future medical professionals through education and training.
