Prof. Kamya’s career spans over three decades, focusing on infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and sexually transmitted infections. He has been instrumental in integrating research into clinical practice and medical education in Uganda.

At Mulago National Referral Hospital, he has played a pivotal role in AIDS care and has mentored numerous medical students and residents in infectious disease research. Additionally, he chairs the Uganda Ministry of Health’s Adult Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Management Committee and serves as editor of the national ART clinical guidelines.

Prof. Kamya has authored over 970 research papers, accumulating more than 25,000 citations. His work has been published in esteemed journals such as The Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, and Clinical Infectious Diseases.
In recognition of his global health contributions, he received the Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award from the University of California, Berkeley.
